Failure to diagnose muscle rupture
We acted on behalf of a lady who presented to hospital with pain in her calf. She was inappropriately treated with Fragmin because of an erroneous working diagnosis of a deep vein thrombosis.
In fact she had a ruptured calf muscle. Because of the delay in treating her ruptured calf muscle, she suffered severe compartment syndrome and nerve damage. She required a skin graft following surgery to treat her compartment syndrome and was left with permanent scarring and damage to the nerves in her leg.
