We settled a claim against Nottingham University Hospitals for a client who underwent spinal surgery in 2009. Our client was a high-achieving elite athlete who was one of the top 10 fastest female cyclists ever in the UK over 10 and 25 miles. She had Olympic ambitions but began experiencing pain in her lower back and was concerned this might interfere with her training.
We settled a claim against Whittington Hospital NHS Trust for an alleged negligent failure to diagnose an undisplaced fracture of the radius. Our client injured his right arm after falling onto his outstretched hand and attended A&E at Whittington Hospital. The A&E clinician treating him requested an X-ray of the right arm and the claimant was subsequently diagnosed with a right forearm sprain. He was discharged without any follow up. His arm did not improve and he subsequently re-attended A&E several weeks later with ongoing pain and restricted movement. Upon further examination and another X-ray, the presence of a displaced radial fracture was noted and he required major surgery to re position and stabilise the fracture.
Our client consulted a private dermatologist at Amersham Clinic for advice regarding pigmentation she had developed on her forehead and cheeks. She was told that she had melasma and treatment with the Ruby laser was recommended.
Our client was born with a unilateral cleft of the lip and palate and had undergone surgery on a number of occasions. In 2011 she was advised that she needed just two more surgical procedures before things were finally corrected.
We settled a clinical negligence claim against Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust following the negligent mismanagement of our client’s orthopaedic treatment when he was nine years old.
We acted for a motorcyclist who had stopped at the side of the road to assist another biker who had come off his bike having lost control on a corner. Both men were off the roadway but a car came round the corner too tightly and collided with our client.
We dealt with a claim arising from our client’s participation in a clinical trial of Endologix’s Fenestrated Ventana Stent Graft System at St George’s Hospital. In May 2011 our client underwent an endovascular repair by way of an insertion of an Endologix fenestrated stent graft. A subsequent CT scan in December 2011 showed occlusion of the left renal stent graft and problems with blood pressure were noted. On 6 March 2012, our client became significantly unwell and was diagnosed as being in renal failure secondary to bilateral renal artery thrombosis. The cause of the obstructed right renal artery was thought to be migration of the graft.
