Senior paralegal

Lorraine is a senior paralegal in the medical negligence team and is based in the firm’s Basingstoke office. She has been a member of the team, in various roles, since 2005, and works alongside colleagues, ranging from associates to partners, to ensure the smooth running of cases and acts as a key contact for clients.

Lorraine assists with claims against NHS trusts, GPs and private healthcare providers in a number of different medical fields, including obstetrics, paediatrics, gynaecology, general surgery, oncology, sepsis, delayed diagnosis and surgical error. She also helps the team with cases involving families who have lost a relative as a result of their medical treatment.

I enjoy making a difference to our clients’ lives, supporting them through what can be an extremely stressful time. When working on their cases, I try to adopt a gentle and understanding approach that validates their experience.

With an excellent understanding of the sensitive issues involved, Lorraine works hard to ensure that clients recover the compensation to which they are entitled. She ensures that clients feel comfortable when describing the issues they have faced and that their evidence – for example, in witness statements – is captured accurately. Lorraine also deals with the key documentary evidence obtained in cases to ensure that this is presented clearly and in an efficient manner.

Assisting on a complex, high-value birth injury claim when a full admission of liability was achieved.

Unnecessary cancer treatment

Achieving settlement for a client on a complex litigated claim where our client underwent unnecessary cancer treatment as a result of negligent surgery in which her uterus was fragmented following a diagnosis of grade 3 adenocarcinoma.

Haemorrhage resulting from fall

Working alongside a partner in the team on behalf of a client who suffered a fall whilst in hospital which caused a subarachnoid haemorrhage.

Emma-Louise Vernon

Emma-Louise is a senior paralegal in the residential property team in Oxford. She is experienced in a variety of residential matters and deals with freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, plot sales for developer clients, re-mortgages, buy to lets and new build purchases, as well as first registrations of unregistered land.

She has her own portfolio of clients, including bank institutions, private individuals, and companies, and also works closely with the private client team assisting with probate sales.

I do my very best to keep what can be an extremely stressful period for clients as smooth as possible by updating them regularly, working closely with estate agents and even sometimes injecting an element of humour!

Emma-Louise Vernon, Senior paralegal

Emma-Louise has worked at Penningtons Manches Cooper and within residential property since 1991, initially as an office junior and senior secretary when the firm was known as Morrell, Peel & Gamlen. Following the merger with Manches in 1997 and Penningtons in 2013, Emma-Louise has worked as a senior secretary amassing 27 years of experience. This has included working closely with an experienced legal executive for 17 years, whose practice areas involved tenancy agreements for a local pub chain, and agricultural and residential work for numerous Oxford colleges. In July 2018, she changed roles to become a paralegal.

Tracey is a senior paralegal in the Court of Protection team. She has experience in the ongoing administration and management of personal injury trusts, including professional compliance, and assists senior colleagues with litigation work and court applications as well as day-to-day management of deputyship matters.

As she has a wealth of expertise in financial issues, Tracey takes a keen interest in clients’ investment portfolios and the analysis of their performance. She has also worked on cases involving property adaptations, building works, planning applications and building control activities.

I support clients by managing deputyships and personal injury trusts with care and precision. My focus is on ensuring compliance and financial security, while assisting with property adaptations and investment analysis to help clients achieve the best possible outcomes.

Tracey Pritchard, Senior paralegal

Before joining the Court of Protection team in 2016, Tracey worked in the Penningtons Manches Cooper internal finance team where she assisted with all aspects of legal finance. She is AAT qualified and is an experienced practitioner in Solicitors Accounts Rules and personal tax matters.

Nisha’s job role involves assisting in the management of multiple and varied caseloads, drafting legal documents, building strong empathetic relationships with clients and offering clear and concise guidance throughout complex legal proceedings. She has developed strong working relationships with leading solicitors and barristers, legal professionals, and medical experts.

Nisha Parmar, Senior paralegal

Throughout her career to date, Nisha has provided support on a wide variety of complex cases including orthopaedic injuries, inquest work, maternal birth injuries, fatal claims, gynaecology and pregnancy claims and personal injury claims, including large scale group litigation. Nisha joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2017.

Joanne Morgan

Joanne works as a senior paralegal in the medical negligence and personal injury team in the firm’s Guildford office. She joined Penningtons Manches Cooper in 2012.

She is focused on supporting the team, in order for them to progress the various cases they deal with and ensure that clients feel comfortable and listened to during what can be the most difficult and stressful time they will ever have to face. Obtaining various sets of very private and personal records on behalf of the client and reviewing these is a primary task that Joanne undertakes with care and understanding and, most importantly, sensitivity.

Offering support to my team and our clients is my main priority. I try to make the process of navigating a personal injury or medical negligence claim as clear and efficient as possible for both.

Joanne Morgan, Senior paralegal

On a day to day basis, Joanne assists the team on a range of tasks, including liaising with hospitals and medical practitioners, preparing and sending out instructions to medical experts and counsel, and providing support with a variety of financial and administrative tasks. Maria is a senior paralegal in the real estate team in London, with over 9 years of experience in conveyancing and property law.

Known for a proactive and detail-driven approach, Maria handles a broad range of residential transactions, including freehold and leasehold sales and purchases, transfers of equity and re-mortgages. She works with her own clients, including acting for banks, private individuals and companies. Maria also works closely with estate agents and lenders to ensure smooth, timely completions. In addition, she provides support to members of the private client and family team in London office on property related matters.

Regarded as one of the leading specialist medical negligence teams in the country, the team provides advice in relation to injury or loss suffered as a result of any type of treatment by doctors, nurses and other healthcare professionals, with particular expertise in complex injury cases. It also provides advice on a range of cases regarding injuries caused in part or in full by another person, including those resulting from road traffic accidents, incidents at work and accidents overseas.

As a senior paralegal, I am committed to delivering precise and client-focused legal support. With extensive experience in case management, and understanding the civil procedure, I ensure every matter is handled with diligence and efficiency. Jen Brewah

Jen is a company secretarial senior paralegal in the corporate team. She advises on a variety of corporate compliance matters, both statutory and non-statutory, and has particular experience in assisting companies with making changes to their board.
